Background:

Acid soils comprise up to 50% of the world’s potentially arable land and thus are a significant limitation to crop production worldwide. To address the many problems associated with acid soils, the First International Symposium on Plant-Soil Interactions at Low pH (PSILPH) was successfully held in Canada in 1987, followed by subsequent symposiums in USA (1990), Australia (1993), Brazil (1996), South Africa (2001) and Japan (2004). Since its opening, this symposium has provided great opportunities for scientists around the globe to exchange information and ideas on all aspects of plant-soil interactions at low pH.

China is the world’s largest agricultural country with more than 2 million km2 of acid soils, which are mostly located in the tropical and subtropical South China. Although great efforts have been attempted to improve agricultural productivity on acid soils in China, acid soils remain a primary limiting factor to agricultural development in this region. Therefore, the 7th International Symposium on Plant-Soil Interactions at Low pH to be held in China will provide a very timely opportunity for Chinese scientists to exchange new knowledge and techniques on increasing plant productivity on acid soils with other scientists all over the world.

Objectives:

The 7th International Symposium on Plant-Soil Interactions at Low pH will provide a forum for the exchange of knowledge, information and ideas among researchers studying all aspects of plant-soil interactions at low pH. The major theme of the symposium is: Nutriomic Approaches to Plant-Soil Interactions: Opportunities and Challenges.
